Kountz Arena & Cedar Ridge Equine 2014 Summer Horse Camps, Bozeman, Montana:


July 21-25th & Aug. 11-15th, 2014
 All Day Combination Horsemanship/Rodeo Camp

  Time: 9am-4pm
  Cost: $450
  Mandatory $75 non-refundable deposit due by June 15th
  Instructor/s: Amy Prechter & Susan VanGalder                                                  Location: Kountz Arena 4490 Stucky Road, Bozeman, MT. 59718            Description= The all day youth horsemanship camp is designed for students that have horseback riding experience. Students should be familiar with the basic safety and knowledge of being around horses as well as being comfortable riding them at a walk and a trot in a group setting. Campers will be introduced to a variety of disciplines and should they have extensive experience in one area of riding, they will be able to work on perfecting their style and technique in that area.

  •  Rodeo Disciplines include: Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Roping and Goat Tying

  •  Other Horsemanship Disciplines: Western Pleasure/Equitation, Trail Riding/Trail Obstacle Courses, English Equitation/Pleasure, Dressage,Western & Cowboy Dressage!

  •  When signing up for camp, campers may indicate a specific area of interest: Rodeo or Horsemanship or Both, this will help us in organizing groups for the camp week.
  • Campers will spend a minimum of 2 1/2 hours in the saddle each day.

  •   Campers will learn and participate in on the ground horsemanship everyday!

  •   Guest Demonstrations by equine professionals (Veterinarians, Farriers, etc.)

  •   Campers will receive a take home journal on horsemanship which they will work on each day!

  •   Campers will make take home equine crafts (such as reins, halters, tail bags, etc.)

  •   The last day of camp is set aside for the "Showdeo" where campers are able to demonstrate what they worked during the camp week for parents, family and friends. The "Showdeo" is followed by a potluck BBQ!

  •   Campers may bring their own horse upon approval by instructor. Additional boarding fees will apply.

  •   Parking Available for Trailers/Campers/Camping for those who wish to stay on site, who may be coming from out of town. A parent/chaperone must stay with the camper.

Description:  This camp is designated for students of all ages who have their own horse and specifically want to work on strengthening rodeo skills (Barrels, poles, roping, goat tying) Campers will spend 1/2 the time in the saddle and spend the other half on theground learning about all aspects of rodeo sports from traveling safely with their horse/s to understanding the differences and importance of styles of tack/equipment for each rodeo discipline. All campers will receive a take home journal that they will work on each day. Campers will also have opportunity to make take home items for their horse such as reins, halters, etc. There are a limited number of lesson horses available for students that do not have their own horse and wish to participate. Additional fees will apply if camper needs to borrow a horse. The last day of camp will be designated for a "Showdeo" where campers will be able to perform what they learned all week for the parents, family and friends. The "Showdeo" is followed by a potluck BBQ.
  •   Parking Available for Trailers/Campers/Camping for those who wish to stay on site, who may be coming from out of town. A parent/chaperone must stay with the camper.

August 4-8th & August 18-22nd= Half day Beginner Horsemanship Camps

Location: Kountz Arena, 4490 Stucky Road, Bozeman, MT. 59718
​Description=This camp is designed specifically for the beginner youth rider who has limited to no experience with horses. Each day campers spend 1 hour in the saddle, 1 hour working with horses on the ground learning about horse safety, grooming, tack, horse anatomy and much more! As well as one hour journaling and making fun, educational equine related crafts! Our riding sessions have multiple instructors and assistants in the arena to assist campers! Ages 5 & up. The last day of camp will be designated for a "Showdeo" where campers will be able to perform what they learned all week for the parents, family and friends. The "Showdeo" is followed by a potluck BBQ. These camps are limited to the first 15 campers that sign up with a paid non-refundable deposit!

We are also willing to instruct Horse Sense Clinics, Barrel Racing Clinics as well as Cowboy Dressage Clinics, but would need your input on your interest level and dates!

"Hi! My name is Amy Prechter. I moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2009 to pursue B.S.                                           degrees in Psychology and Agriculture Education at Montana State University. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work as a full time trainer and riding instructor at the Kountz Arena here in Bozeman. I grew up around horses and have extensive experience in the breeding, training and showing of quality Morgan and Quarter Horses in a wide variety of disciplines. In 2009, I finished 6th place in the American Morgan Horse Association Grand Nationals & World Championships Dressage Seat Gold Medal Finals. I currently own and operate my own business "Cedar Ridge Equines" and have trained and instructed lessons for over 8 years in California. I am certified as an Equine Specialist in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and hope to incorporate a
